Make a Difference through Technology

In the past, we talked a lot about people aka customer service making THE difference. Other times, we talked about the process that makes the difference. Think about this: what drives the process? Is it the people behind it? Is it the technology platform behind the processes that make these processes work?

I’m not saying process and people don’t make a difference anymore. BUT I’m saying that today, definitely, it’s worth taking a look at how YOU can make a difference through the technology that you (or your organization) use.

Let’s talk about software solutions and applications relative to this theme. Tell me honestly if you don’t think that the core software applications that you use were chosen (or built for those who outsourced the software solution) to:

a) help you become more efficient - It might be that the software was built to consolidate several applications (industry calls this enterprise application integration), or it can be a replacement of a legacy system, or it’s simply a software that helps you run your business. Why do you use a CRM software vs rudimentary spreadsheets — it’s because you become much more efficient with it. Why do you use SugarCRM software vs another CRM system — it’s because you can go directly to the code to customize it to fit your sales process requirements. Why do you use hosted or on-demand SugarCRM vs the on-premise version — it’s because you don’t have to trouble with installation and hardware requirements and all that hard labor associated with maintenance of such application.

b) help you solve an actual business problem - This is very much related to efficiency, as above. Imagine in the realty / property industry — that sales (say of condo properties) need to be logged in real time in a system accessible by all sales agents so that they do not commit the mistake of selling a unit that has already been sold. This software solution solves an actual business problem, right? I’m pretty sure there are a lot of applications out there that does the same thing.

c) help you respond quickly to strategic business requirements - Opportunities sprout every minute and the velocity at which you respond to that opportunity affects your success rate. You’re bound to fail (or lose the opportunity) if you don’t have the technology set in place. How can you reach that “hit level” when you have a paltry technology foundation with loose gears to set in motion?

Take a look at the technologies that you use in your organization. Start with your software applications. Are you inconvenienced? Feel like something’s stalling you?

It’s high time that you start to make a difference. Capitalize on technology today and make it work for you.
