Catch the Wave at ApacheCon 2008
New Orleans will be witness to a different wave in the forthcoming Apache Convention (ApacheCon) US 2008, the official user conference of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). The 5-day event, dubbed as “Leading the Wave of Open Source”, starts on November 3, and showcases a number of special events and activities, several of which are debuting this year.
The annual event shall be the venue to have ASF Members, innovators, developers, vendors, and users experience the future of Open Source development.
The official ApacheCon website mentions that it will be “drawing internationally-renowned thought-leaders, contributors, influencers, and organizations in the Open Source community, ApacheCon offers insight into the culture and community that develops and shepherds industry-leading Open Source projects, including Apache HTTP Server—the world’s most popular Web server software for ten years running.”
“The usual high quality line up of talks is available this year.”, Brett Porter mentions. Brett is there not as Exist’s Vice President for Product Development, but will be a speaker on November 4 at 10AM, for “Apache Maven : End-to End”, a walk through of the lifecycle of developing a typical Java application from creation to deployment, and show how to use Apache Maven most effectively to manage the build and development process.
Brett will also be presenting on November 6, at 9am, on “More Apache Maven Best Practices”, a continuation of his presentation from last year’s convention with additional topics such as integration testing and documentation.
Other speakers include Carlos Sanchez, who will speak at 10am, on November 6 on “Q4E and Eclipse IAM, Maven Integration for Eclipse”, the new Open Source project that integrates Apache Maven and the Eclipse IDE for faster, more agile, and more productive development.
The conference will be preceded by a 2-day hackathon on November 3-4 and will officially end on November 7. On November 8th, ApacheCon is doing a volunteer event to help rebuild a small part of New Orleans.
This worthy project for the community of New Orleans may remain to be the only build that Apache Maven may not be able to automate.
