Is open source ready for prime time? What are the indicators?

These were the big questions in the recently concluded Philippine Open Source Summit (POSS) held last June 23-24 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

The community voted among 5 indicators which were mentioned by Winston Damarillo during his plenary talk. The result:

  • – Open Source products that become market leaders (24.3%)
  • Open Source as a collaboration model (27.2%)
  • – Open Source as driver of software entrepreneurship (17.5%)
  • – Open Source as it affects the daily life of a developer (4.8%)
  • – The number of times in a month Microsoft says “we support Open Source” (19.4%)
  • undecided (6.8%)
